IPC/WHMA-A-620 Alignment

The IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard dictates what constitutes a Target, Acceptable, or Defect condition for wire harnesses. When training an AI, the labels must map directly to these criteria.

Mapping Classes to AI Confidence

The standard defines three classes of products:

  • Class 1: General Electronic Products (e.g., toys, cheap consumer goods).
  • Class 2: Dedicated Service Electronic Products (e.g., uninterrupted service is desired, like a TV).
  • Class 3: High Performance/Harsh Environment (e.g., aerospace, life support, critical automotive).

An AI model deployed in a Class 3 facility must operate with a much higher confidence threshold. A model might be 92% confident that a minor insulation deformation is acceptable. In Class 1, it passes. In Class 3, the system must be programmed to route that 92% confidence score to a human for manual verification.
