Safety Considerations for AI Training Data

Generating the thousands of defective crimps required to train an AI model involves operating presses outside of their designed parameters. This introduces significant safety risks.

Tooling Catastrophe

If an engineer intentionally lowers the shut height too far to create an "over-crimp" training image, the applicator tooling can shatter under the tons of force. Shrapnel from shattered anvils or punches is extremely dangerous.

Safe Defect Generation Protocols

  • Use Scrap Tooling: Never use production-grade applicators for intentional over-crimping. Keep a set of worn or scrapped tooling specifically for data generation.
  • Lexan Shielding: Ensure standard press guards are reinforced if you are intentionally causing crashes or misfeeds.
  • Incremental Adjustments: Do not jump immediately to a severe defect state. Adjust dials in 0.02mm increments to capture the gradient of failure safely.
